Backward Class Welfare Department

The backward class welfare and Tribal Development Department is are of the top priority department  of the Government of West Bengal. The primary target of this district is to issue caste certificate within the ceiling of 28 days as per mandate of the WBRTPS Act. In the year 2016-17 – 3494 nos. caste certificate were issued. While in the year 2017-18 – 1429 nos. of caste certificate have so far been issued. Among other works under this district the other work of importance is the scholarship. Both pre-matric and post matric in either and offline mode. While Shikhashree is the prime focus area the rest of the scholarship are also very important.   The report is as follow: In the year 2016-17 the Shikshashree beneficiaries stand at  7148 nos., while in the year 2017-18 the Shikshashree will be in online mode and the work has just started. In the 2016-17 the other scholarships stood at 2390 nos. while in the year 2017-18 the target has tentatively been fixed at 2630. Work is in full swing. Another vital part of this district are the hostels. There are 8 hostels at present of which 1 nos. Ashram Hostel, 2 Central Hostels and 5 nos. are school attached hostels. 7 nos. of those 8 hostels are running at present. There are at present 1359 nos. of STOAP holders. They are getting a pension of Rs. 1,000/- per month.
